On November 10, 1999, the United States public company UPS went public. The stockholders of UPS were not happy with the decision and several different groups of them took action. One group of stockholders, known as the “owners”, wanted to keep control of the company and make it more like a publicly traded company. Another group, known as the “shareholders”, wanted to give the company to other shareholders. The final decision was made to give the company to the “shareholders” because they had more votes.
